A new residential enclave which celebrates the charm of the past is taking shape on historic Green Turtle Cay, Abaco. The developer, Douglas Poland of Canada, has defied the condo craze that's swept the popular islands in favour of a greener, more neighbourhood friendly community called Leeward Yacht Club.

Newly-independent MP Kenyatta Gibson is the attorney for an investor group seeking to acquire an Abaco island, which has been long-renowned as the first boating stop in the Bahamas for the Florida yachting set, in a deal thought to be worth $20 million.

Islanders are irate that an American developer — who has a second home on the island that he turned into a rental property — has bought 14 acres consisting of 58 parcels of land in Hope Town while in talks to acquire another 17 acres which houses the Elbow Cay Club.

There is no basis for the continued opposition to the $175 million Baker's Bay Golf and Ocean Club development on Guana Cay, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham said at the weekend, as all "legitimate concerns" held by those opposing the project have been answered satisfactorily.

Baker's Bay to double 160m investment within the next year
The Baker's Bay Golf & Ocean Club developers this weekend said they had spent more than $160 million on the Guana Cay project, and are likely to double that investment within the next year.
