THE INAGUAS
Island Facts & General Information
Creating a remote southern border for the Bahamas, Great Inagua lies more than 350 miles from Nassau, and is one of the least-visited Out Islands despite its three prime claims to fame: huge flaming-pink flamingoes, giant green turtles, and the world's second-largest solar evaporation works at the Morton Salt Company complex.
To visit these sights on this third-largest Bahamian isle means a stay in the 40by-20-mile island's sole settlement, Matthew Town—which is, by itself, a sight to see. On a good day, the hazy bulk of Cuba to the
southwest is just visible from the observation platform of the Matthew Town lighthouse.
US firm hired to aid Inagua eco-tourism effort
A Washington D.C. tourism development firm has been hired to provide marketing, sales and consulting services to an initiative to transform Inagua into a sports fishing and ecotourism destination.
